Uunissa paistui porkkanasämpylät ja kaupasta löytyi hauska lasisetti; neljä lasia ja pullo. Teksti kyljessä "Absolutely pure milk". En edes yrittänyt vastustaa kiusausta. Ihan kiva keskiviikko. Toivottavasti sinulla myös.

I baked carrot rolls and found funny glass set from the grocery; four glass and a bottle. Text on the side "Absolutely pure milk." I didn't even try to resist temptation. Quite a nice Wednesday. Hope you have had too.

Nomen est omen

Minun sukunimeni tarkoittaa pientä lintua. En ole koskaan tuntenut tarvetta vaihtaa nimeäni miksikään muuksi. 

My surname means a little bird. I have never felt the need to change my name to anything else.

Viime aikoina olen kiinnittänyt enemmän ja enemmän huomiota ympärilläni oleviin lintuihin. Nukun ikkuna auki öisin ja aamulla on hyvä herätä siihen, että linnut laulavat pihalla. Ulkona kävellessä katseeni hakee lintuja ja olen onnellinen löytäessäni maasta sulkia. Viime viikolla valitsin sen kummemmin ajattelematta vanhoihin kehyksiin uudet kuvat, linnunmunista. Ja viikonloppuna lasten kanssa askarrellessa muotoilin massasta erilaisia lintuja. 

Recently, I have paid more and more attention to the birds around me. I sleep the window open and it's good to wake up in the morning when birds are singing outside. I search the birds with my eyes when walking outdoor and I'm happy if I find the feather from the ground. Last week I chose the new images to the old framework, bird's eggs. And this weekend when modeling the mass with the children I made different kind of birds.

Kun olin lapsi ja lintu lensi kodin ikkunaan, äitini sanoi aina, että sillä on jokin viesti kerrottavana. Ja kun tikka hakkasi pihapuussa, silloin oli aina jotakin ikävää tulossa. Linnut ovat ihmeellisiä.

When I was a child and the bird flew to the window my mother always said that it has a message to tell. And when the dart knocked the yard's tree, there was always something sad to come. Birds are amazing.

Coleslaw - Sunny Salad

Viime viikonloppuna tein ensimmäisen kerran Coleslaw-salaattia. Yksinkertainen raastesalaatti upposi niin mukavasti, että tein tänään toisen satsin. Aurinkoinen salaatti aurinkoiseen päivään. 

I made Coleslaw salad for the first time last weekend. It was so good that I have to made another salad already today. Sunny salad for the sunny day.

You need:

One grated carrot

300 g chopped cabbage

1 dl pineapple (crushed is better)

chopped leek

one unpeeled sour apple, cored and chopped

parsley

Dressing: 

Mayonnaise

Pineapple juice

Salt 

Directions:

Put the cabbage to the strainer and pour boiling water through it. Let it cool. 

In a large bowl, combine carrot, pineapple, leek, apple and cabbage. Add parsley. 

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, few tablespoon pineapple juice and salt. 

Pour dressing over salad. 

Salad is good also without dressing. Maybe even better.

Making with hands

Olin lauantain lapsenvahtina, kun vanhempi sisareni oli miehensä kanssa juoksemassa Helsinki City Run:ia. 

Lapset saivat käyttää vapaasti mielikuvitustaan ja muovailla valkoisesta DAS muovailumassasta meriaiheisia hahmoja. Lopuksi kiinnitettiin ripustimet ja tytöillä oli vielä yksi lahja lisää äidillensä, pöytäliinanpainot. 

Suosittelen, massa on helppoa käsitellä ja syntyneet taideteokset kuivuvat huoneenlämmössä. 

I was "babysitter" on last Saturday because my older sister and her husband were running Helsinki City Run. 

I let children free use their imagination and create marine-related figures from white DAS modelling pasta. We put hanger to the figures and girls had one more present to their mother, table cloth weights. 

I can recommend that modelling pasta. It is easy to handle and created artwork dry at room temperature.

Roses for Mum

Ruusut kuuluvat äitienpäivään. Aitojen ruusujen lisäksi ruusut kukkivat myös tarjottimella. Tarjotin on toteutettu liimalakkatekniikalla.

Roses belong to Mother's Day. In addition to real roses, roses bloom also in a tray. The tray is made with glue lacquer technique.

The Old Town

Minä rakastuin Rodoksen vanhaan kaupunkiin. Olisin voinut viettää siellä tuhottomasti aikaa vain katsellen vanhoja rakennuksia ja nauttien kaupungin tunnelmasta. 

Kaupungilla on erikoinen historia ja on vaikea tiivistää sitä lyhyesti. Täältä ja täältä löytyy lisätietoa kiinnostuneille.

I fell in love with the Old Town of Rhodes. I would have been able to spend there tons of time just watching the old buildings and enjoying the atmosphere. 

The town has miscellaneous history and it is hard to sum it briefly. Here and here you can find more information if you are interested in.

Vanha kaupunki ei ollut mikään läpi käveltävä paikka. Siellä käymiseen kannattaa todella varata runsaasti aikaa. Itse vierailin siellä monta kertaa loman aikana ja söin siellä useana iltana. Vierailin myös argeologisessa museossa, joka aikoinaan oli ritarisairaala ja suurmestarin palatsissa. Molemmat ovat todella vierailemisen arvoisia paikkoja.  

You can't just walk through the Old Town. It's better to take a lot of time for that. In fact, I circled there many times during my holiday. There were many good restaurants and sights in the town. I visited in the archeological museum which was once the hospital of the knights and in the palace of the Grand Master. Both places are really worth for visiting.

Ystäväni sain pienen kauniin pojan pääsiäisen aikoihin ja tänään, vihdoin ja viimein, pääsimme taas lenkkeilemään yhdessä. Olin jo paljon odottanut tätä! Viikottainen turinatuokio, jonka aikana saa keventää sydäntä ja jakaa kaikki huippuhetket, vaihtaa ruokareseptit ja keskustella "tyttöjen juttuja". Yksinkertainen ja arkinen asia, joka toisen kanssa jaettuna tuntuu paljon mukavammalta. 

My friend gave birth to a beautiful little boy on Easter and today, at long last, we went for walk together. I have waited a lot for that! Weekly chatting time, which may lighten the heart and share all special moments, to exchange recipes and discuss all the "girl stuff." Simple, everyday thing, shared with a friend feels much nicer.

Sunday

Eräänlaisena juhlapäivänä voisin pitää tätä sunnuntaita, jolloin sain viimein valmiiksi paperinarutabletit. En tiedä, miksi niiden teko tuntui niin työläiltä. 

This was quite special day. Finally I got ready the paper yarn placemats. I don't know why they took so much time.

Ensi kertaa pöytään pääsi myös H&M:ltä aiemmin tilattu liina.

The tablecloth which I ordered already some time ago from H&M was on the table today for the very first time.

En muista edelleenkään muista Arabian astiasarjan nimeä. Astiat ovat leimojen mukaan vuosilta 1966-1967. Hihkaise, jos sinä muistat.  

I still can't remember the name of this Arabias set of dishes. Prints told that they are from 1966-1967. Please told me if you remember.

Pientä piristystä

Löysin uusia hauskoja kuvia ja jo monta vuotta kaapissa lojuneet vanhat kehykset pääsivät taas käyttöön. Aika pienellä vaivalla saa piristystä kotiin.

These frames has been in my wardrobe for many years, without any work.I found some nice new pictures and frames were useful again. With small effort you may jazz up your home.
